Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (1983) | Favourite Holiday Movies #002

 Hmmm…favorite holiday movie?  You couldn’t tell it was actually Christmas until Sgt. Hara mentioned it, and that was midway through the film.  But hey, to each his own.  Personally, I love this film, but at the same time, I don’t put it with my favorite holiday movies, not even the ones that are set at Christmas but aren’t really about the holiday (i.e. Die Hard, Trading Places).

To be honest this is more a list of movies that I (used to) watch around Christmas and therefor connect in my mind to the Holidays. Half the movies on my list have shit all to do with Christmas, especially the old DEFA Fairytale movies that nobody even knows outside of europe. It’s mostly influenced by what was on German TV when I was a child, and this definitely will always be a ‘Holiday Movie’ for me.
